About the saints life:
Commemorated July 4
The saint's exalted life became known, and monks began to flock to him in large numbers to hear his words of edification. He also guided many lawless people to the path of salvation, including a robber who had intended to rob the saint's cell but was brought to deep repentance by his meekness and wise discourse. The brethren of the Philotheou Monastery, deprived of their abbot, begged Saint Dionysius to become their abbot. However, some monks were dissatisfied with his choice, and discord arose. Valuing peace and love above all else, Saint Dionysius resigned his position as abbot and withdrew to Verria, and then to Mount Olympia. Zealots of monasticism began to flock to him there. Dionysius built cells and a church for them and spent time with them in fasting and prayer. Having attained spiritual heights, he worked many miracles. Many times, through the prayers of the saint, the Lord punished wicked people who oppressed the monks of Olympus or violated Christ's commandments. Thus, a severe drought and hail devastated the lands of a Turk who had expelled the monks and destroyed their monastery; a shepherd who had oppressed the monastery was punished with the death of his cattle and illness; and a maiden from one of the villages was attacked by a demon for her shamelessness. However, all of them, also through the prayers of the saint, received healing and deliverance from their misfortunes, led by his meekness to repentance. The saint compiled rules for monastic life, himself serving as a model for monastic practice. On Mount Olympus, he built a temple and later a monastery in the name of the Prophet Elijah. He left his brothers a testament before his death regarding monastic life according to the Rule of the Holy Mountain.
He died at a ripe old age. He was buried on Mount Olympus, in the church narthex of the monastery he founded.
